1961-1962 AFL Toes Up
Notes
Neat historical set, very under produced and probably undervalued. As many of you may know, the AFL started play in 1960 in direct competition to the entrenched and successful NFL. While the league proved to be very successful in the long run, eventually forcing a merger, the early years were pretty bleak. Teams played in run down arenas and many played before sparse crowds. It's safe to assume that production of these dolls was probably pretty small. Very few were made and even fewer survived.
The set includes several teams that moved or were renamed (Titans/Jets,
Texans/Chiefs, Oilers/Titans) and includes their original team colors and some
neat helmet logos. Here's a look at the Pats and Texans logos:
A great set to collect if you have the patience and money.
