1961-1962 AFL Toes Up

Notes

The first set featuring dolls of the new AFL, issued in their 2nd year of existence. A very colorful set that is very hard to find. Most teams only show up once or twice a year.
Toes up style with baggy shirts. Looks like there were two versions of each doll made. First version has City decal on the base and team nickname on the chest. Second version has team nickname on the base and no chest decal. Various color bases.
Bills, Broncos, Raiders and Titans have plain helmets, rest have helmet decals.

Texans (Dallas)	8	450-750	One of the rarest, mint examples can go for a bunch of money.
Titans (New York)	9	600-1000+	Probably the most scarce doll of this tough set.
Box	10		AFL boxes are extremely rare and can add a lot of value.

Notes:

Neat historical set, very under produced and probably undervalued. As many of you may know, the AFL started play in 1960 in direct competition to the entrenched and successful NFL. While the league proved to be very successful in the long run, eventually forcing a merger, the early years were pretty bleak. Teams played in run down arenas and many played before sparse crowds. It's safe to assume that production of these dolls was probably pretty small. Very few were made and even fewer survived.

The set includes several teams that moved or were renamed (Titans/Jets, Texans/Chiefs, Oilers/Titans) and includes their original team colors and some neat helmet logos. Here's a look at the Pats and Texans logos:
